Argentine forward Lucas Janson may be leaving Tigre for Toronto FC | OneFootball

Forward Lucas Janson, who came through the youth ranks at Tigre, appears to be leaving his boyhood club.

Janson has been closely linked with a move to Toronto FC of Major League Soccer. TFC has recently freed up an international roster spot by trading Nicolas Hasler and cleared squad space when Spanish midfielder Ager Aketxe returned to Cádiz CF on loan last month.

The Reds would sign Janson initially on a six-month loan with an option to purchase the player later if he impresses.

The 23-year old Argentine forward has played up top and on both wings over the years for Tigre and that versatility would serve him well in Toronto. TFC manager Greg Vanney often employs in-game formation changes and has a squad of players who excel at numerous positions.

For their part, Tigre have already signed an attacking player to fill the hole left by Janson’s proposed departure. The club from Victoria, Buenos Aires have announced a deal with Juan Ignacio Cavallaro. The forward was a free agent following the expiration of his contract with San Lorenzo and he signed for one year.

Cavallaro may compete with Diego Morales and Matías Pérez García for minutes or may allow manager Cristian Raúl Ledesma to experiment with his attacking options.

Tigre finished last campaign just one point outside of the relegation zone and need to spark positive momentum early in the upcoming season to avoid a similar fate in the 2018-19 Superliga.
