The 2022 World Cup winner has a contract with the club valid until 2026. However, the two parties are eager to push back the deadline until 2028.

The striker reiterates his willingness to sign the contract extension sooner rather than later. However, he acknowledges that the two parties still have to overcome some hurdles.

“I’m ready to sign, but a couple of things are still missing,” said the Inter skipper in his interview with Sport Mediaset via FcInterNews.

“I really want to renew with the club. The people here love me and vice versa. Also, my family is doing well in Milano.

“The club must do its part while I do mine. The agreement isn’t far, so the signatures will arrive.

“New Year’s Eve? I hope we sign tomorrow, but I’m calm and thinking about my work and my family. My agent will take care of the rest.”

The Nerazzurri star also had vast praise for his coach Simone Inzaghi whom he considers an extraordinary person, while also discussing the Scudetto race.

“Inzaghi has evolved a lot from a technical and human point of view. He cares about everyone.

“He’s an extraordinary person, he makes us work with a smile. It’s important to have a technician like him, who gives opportunities to everyone.

“I definitely place him among the best. He had three incredible years with us, winning cups and reaching the Champions League final.

“The two championships that we didn’t win are still haunting us, but now we’re here. He works every day to improve”.

“Scudetto duel with Juventus? The road is still long, we are still at the beginning. We must continue on this path.

“There are many strong teams in the league like Milan and Napoli. We must work together for the good of Inter.”

Inter Milan Captain Lautaro Martinez Believes Contract Renewal Is Around The Corner

Finally, Lautaro believes the World Cup experience made him more mature, while also opening up on his partnership with Marcus Thuram.

“The World Cup made me mature. I experienced some important things as a player. This competition makes you grow in many aspects. I’m happy to lend a hand to Inter.”

“I’d like to score a lot, but the important thing is for Inter to win. Then it would be fantastic to help them by scoring goals.

“I want to improve my numbers and my performances, every year I want to take a step forward.”

“Milito and Eto’o made history for Inter, as the coach said. Marcus arrived this year with a great desire to help and be a protagonist.

“We do everything we can to help our teammates, we will try to do so until the very end.”
