Tying Martinez’s future down on a new long-term deal has been one of Inter’s priorities this summer.

In fact, the Nerazzurri had been working to iron out a new contract for the captain for months.

Talks began late last summer. Martinez’s previous contract expired at the end of June 2026 – but Inter want to bump that forward.

The negotiations progressed through the winter and spring.

There was no rush, but Inter viewed an agreement with their captain as vital.

And there did appear to be a few bumps in the road.

These did not have anything to do with doubts on Martinez’s part about staying. The Argentine has never expressed any sort of desire to leave Inter.

But the wage demands that Martinez and his agents presented were initially well beyond what Inter felt they could reasonably offer.

In the end, however, Inter and Martinez sorted things out.

Reports indicate that the 26-year-old specifically instructed his agent to accept an offer from Inter rather than continuing to hold out for more – he wanted to avoid any more contract drama.

And for a couple months it has looked like a matter of “when” rather than “if” Martinez signs a new deal.

According to the Gazzetta, in fact, the Inter captain has actually already put pen to paper.

It is now just a matter of finding the right time to officially announce the new deal for the Argentine.

And it won’t be long.

The Gazzetta anticipate that the official announcement should arrive by mid-August. It could be any time in the next few days.

Inter will have confirmed Martinez’s new deal by the start of the new Serie A season.
