Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni says COVID-19 badly affected Lionel Messi

As reported by L’Équipe, Argentinian national team coach Lionel Scaloni has explained that PSG forward Lionel Messi suffered badly with COVID-19 symptoms having contracted the virus over the winter break, subsequently missing three Paris games at the start of the year:

“He told me that it had affected him a lot. He had the most virulent strain. It’s important that he comes back physically well and I felt that it was not ideal for him to joins us [on international duty this weekend] not being at 100%. He was affected for a some time.”
