Although Kyle Walker is currently injured the time is coming when Manchester City will need to look for a replacement for their captain. Walker has been a great player for the world champions. But he is getting nearer to the end of his career rather than the beginning. With that in mind, a new report indicates that the champions may have identified a familiar face to replace their captain.
Matthew Wilkinson has reported for Football Insider that Manchester City are laying the groundwork ahead of a potential move for Pedro Porro. Furthermore, Wilkinson reports that Tottenham will likely command a fee of £80 million to sell Porro. It is further reported by Wilkinson that Pedro Porro’s previous spell in Manchester City’s academy could see him be the ideal replacement for Kyle Walker.
As a player, Pedro Porro could potentially replace Kyle Walker. The full-back does possess the pace and power required to immediately fill Kyle Walker’s shoes. Porro is a threat going forward and more than serviceable as a defender. Pedro Porro has shone for Tottenham since arriving at the club. His form for Ange Postecoglou’s side has seemingly caught the eye of Manchester City. But there may be one major stumbling block that makes a City move for Porro hard to complete.
Tottenham are traditionally a tough negotiator in transfer deals. They tend to stick to their price if they do sell any of their star players. This has been seen in recent years. When Manchester City moved for Harry Kane Spurs wouldn’t budge on their set fee. You also had the impression during that saga that Spurs were determined not to sell their star striker to Manchester City. That could happen again if City did move for Pedro Porro. That remains to be seen. But the Tottenham factor does appear to look large over any potential City move for Pedro Porro.
The time is coming when Manchester City will have to replace Kyle Walker. Pedro Porro is a player who could potentially fill his shoes. But the fact that Manchester City would have to deal with Tottenham to buy Porro may be a stumbling block that cannot be overcome. Time will reveal the answer to that question and if City do have eyes on Porro one day replacing Kyle Walker.
