Arda Turan will miss half of next season after seeing red last Friday.

The Turkish midfielder has been slapped with an incredible 16-match ban after pushing an assistant referee in Istanbul Başakşehir’s 1-1 draw with Sivasspor a week ago.

Turan was upset by a decision not to award him a foul in the 93rd minute and pushed the assistant on the touchline.

After he was sent off, the 31-year-old continued to rage, insulting and threatening the referee.

He has been given a 10-match ban for the push and a further six match ban for his complaints.

Turan will now miss the club’s final two Turkish Super Lig matches of the season as they look to chase down league leaders Galatasaray, who are currently three points clear.

He will then also sit out the first 14 games of next season.
