De Telegraaf reports that Antwerp hope to sign Calvin Stengs on a permanent deal from OGC Nice. The 24-year-old attacker spent last season on loan at the club managed by Mark van Bommel. He played a massive part in helping Antwerp win their first Belgian title in 66 years. The Dutchman scored three goals and provided nine assists in all competitions.
Antwerp’s director of football Marc Overmars has already submitted an initial offer for Stengs. The player’s contract at Nice runs until 2026 and it’s expected that the Ligue 1 side will ask for several million euros.
In July 2021, Stengs moved from AZ Alkmaar to OGC Nice for €15m. The seven-time Netherlands international has failed to impress in France. In total, he’s featured 32 times scoring just one goal and providing one assist. The transfer fee between Antwerp and Nice is expected to be considerably lower than what Nice originally paid for the player.
