Back in February, São Paulo FC agreed to sell Antony to Ajax in a deal worth up to nearly €27m in an agreement that was quite complex.
The initial €15.75m fee has been paid to the Brazilian club, with an additional €6m due if he hits certain targets. An additional €5m was paid for the remaining 20 per cent of David Neres’ economic rights.
In an interview with Yahoo Sports, Antony’s agent, Junior Pedroso, revealed that Ajax were not the only club interested in the 19-year-old.
“Borussia Dortmund was close by and even sent someone to Brazil,” Antony’s agent Junior Pedroso said.
“There was also interest from two major clubs from England, including Chelsea. We spoke to a total of twelve clubs.
“The agreements are similar to those of David Neres. There is a bonus if he plays a hundred games, becomes the top scorer of the Eredivisie, and if Ajax wins the Champions League or Europa League.
“We are waiting for the green light, but we plan to travel to the Netherlands on 5 July. The presentation is two days later.”
Antony’s contract with São Paulo ends on 30 June and Pedroso does not expect the coronavirus pandemic to affect his client’s move.
