The injury woes for Manchester United have been a common theme this season and a big reason why they have almost nothing to play for.

Almost. There’s still the FA Cup semifinal on the horizon with a game against Coventry City United would very much be favourites for.

Fortunately for Erik ten Hag, his team’s prospects will be boosted by the return of his loyal sergeant, Antony.

The Brazilian was in the midst of a purple patch of form before he missed the Bournemouth game due to injury.

In his absence, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho put up a forgettable display with the latter subbed off at halftime and creating a storm of his own due to his post-match antics.

Ahead of this game, both Garnacho and Antony have returned and are arguably favourites to start the game ahead of a struggling Rashford.

Antony, in particular, will be welcomed back with open arms since there was a lot of discussion about the true reason behind his absence.

Suggestions of a rift between the player and the manager over his starting status were mooted but if he returns immediately, those claims will be put to rest.

As the FA Cup is the only realistic chance at silverware for United, there can be no excuses or mitigating factors for a flat performance.

All eyes will be on Wembley on April 21 and with Antony returning and Garnacho hopefully putting aside the drama to come back to the team, fans will hope for a much better showing.

Ten Hag’s men have won only one of their last seven Premier League games but the FA Cup offers both, the player and the manager a chance to get an increasingly fractured fanbase dreaming again.

Antony’s return undoubtedly boosts those prospects.
