Manchester United’s summer signing Antony has voiced his concerns about the air conditioning in World Cup stadiums.

The temperatures in Qatar are scorching throughout the year and would be dangerous in the summer, hence the tournament taking place in the winter months.

Because of this, most of the stadiums, that have been built since Qatar was awarded the World Cup, have air conditioning to protect players and fans.

Antony has only featured for the Selecao in short cameos so far, but will likely play more over the coming weeks as the team have already progressed to the Round of 16, thanks to a superb strike from fellow Red Casemiro last night.

Antony’s fitness issues

He was sidelined for United’s final matches leading into the international break with an injury issue, however, he has looked lively and fit when called upon by Tite in Doha, despite missing two training sessions through illness.

The 22-year-old is feeling the effect of the conditions, though, as he told ESPN (via Sport Witness): “It was a bit difficult. I ended up having a bad feeling there for a few days that complicated me a bit. I’m recovering well and getting 100%. It was more of a sickness, throat. It was the air conditioning.

“Not only me, but other players also had a cough and bad throat. It’s very difficult for me to get sick, but I’m happy to be an important part of the team. Whenever you need Antony, I’m available.”
