Carlo Ancelotti this morning announced his matchday squad for the La Liga match against Real Valladolid at the Santiago Bernabéu this afternoon.

The Italian coach has not included centre-back Antonio Rüdiger among those selected for the match against Pacheta’s team in the Spanish capital.

Although Real Madrid have not officially announced the German centre-back’s absence, he has been ruled out due to a knee problem, report Mundo Deportivo.

Rüdiger a doubt for El Clásico

The Germany international will undergo tests on Monday to determine the exact extent of his injury, but the injury leaves Ancelotti’s team short in defence, with versatile defender Nacho already suspended for the La Liga fixture and left-back Ferland Mendy out again with a muscular problem.

Ancelotti only has central defenders Eder Militao, David Alaba and Jesús Vallejo available. The left-back position was likely going to be occupied by Alaba, but it now looks set to go back to Eduardo Camavinga, who has been a reliable emergency solution.

Rüdiger, 30, is now a doubt for Wednesday’s Copa del Rey semi-final against league leaders Barcelona at Camp Nou.
