Antonio Rüdiger has praised Kepa Arrizabalaga after keeping a clean sheet on his Chelsea debut against Huddersfield.
Kepa – the world’s most expensive goalkeeper after his €80m move from Athletic Bilbao – had little to do as the Blues cruised to a 3-0 victory in Maurizio Sarri’s first game in charge.
Rüdiger believes Thibaut Courtois was a significant loss for Chelsea but insists everyone is backing their new goalkeeper to shine in years to come.
“I think he did well,” Rüdiger told reporters after the match. “He tried to speak as much as he can. He did well with that and we as defenders we needed to help him and we did that.
“In general, it was a very good day and a very good debut for him. We all know Thibaut’s quality, but Thibaut is not a Chelsea player anymore.
“I wish him good luck at Real Madrid, but now we have to concentrate on Kepa because he’s our goalkeeper. In his work he’s very confident.”
