Antonio Conte is the man on everyone’s lips, as the former Chelsea man enjoys some time off.

Expected to take the season for himself, Conte was wanted desperately by Tottenham in the summer but caused much hilarity by turning them down.

Massimiliano Maddaloni, who spoke to CMIT TV, said: “He is telling everyone that he wants to have a year off to restart with an important project next year.”

Arsenal don’t seem in any rush to replace Mikel Arteta, although the next few matches could prove pivotal, culminating in a game against Spurs at the Emirates and a trip to Brighton just before the next international break.

Things can change quickly in Premier League management and, should the time finally arrive for the Kroenkes to pull the trigger, Antonio Conte will be the name most Arsenal fans want to see in the headlines, taking the job.

That, however, is highly unlikely to happen.

“He would only accept a winning project,” Gianluca di Marzio said.

“So I don’t think he would accept Arsenal and that is why he said no to Tottenham.

“I think he would only accept if say Manchester United called.”

Maddaloni added, “I too am convinced that Conte does not go to Arsenal.”

And to complete the quote from above, “he is telling everyone that he wants to have a year off to restart with an important project next year and now Arsenal is not that.”

Arsenal wouldn’t be willing to pay Conte’s wages, anyway.

The 52-year-old earned £11m, plus bonuses at Chelsea. Arsenal pay Mikel Arteta £3.6m.
