Antonio Conte, who wants the Manchester United job amid reports that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces the sack, once got into a heated altercation with Argentine midfielder Ever Banega during the 2020 Europa League final.

The Italian coach was unable to prevent Inter Milan losing 3-2 at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne back in August 2020.

An own goal by the unfortunate Romelu Lukaku saw Sevilla’s players lift the Europa League trophy for the sixth time since 2006.

Antonio Conte vs Ever Banega

There was a curious moment during the first half involving Conte, however, which led to the Inter boss receiving a yellow card from referee Danny Makkelie.

Conte was visibly fuming with Banega who, it transpired, had reportedly teased the Italian about his hair transplant.

Italian media, per Amazon Prime, claimed Banega had tugged on Conte’s hair to “check if it was a wig or real”.

Footage of the incident showed Banega rubbing his hair while looking at an increasingly angry Conte, who is alleged to have told the Sevilla star: “I’ll see you after the game”.

Banega had clearly touched a nerve.

When Mourinho teased Conte over his hair

The South American isn’t the first person in football to tease Conte about his hair transplant, either.

Jose Mourinho - surprise, surprise - couldn’t resist taking a cheeky dig at Conte during his spell as Manchester United boss.

The Portuguese tactician told reporters: "I could answer in many different ways but I'm not going to lose my hair to speak about Antonio Conte."

A cheap shot from Mourinho. Who would have thought it?

Will Conte replace Solskjaer at Man Utd?

Conte could now be about to follow in Mourinho’s footsteps by becoming manager of Man Utd.

It’s understood that the 52-year-old, who has been out of work since leaving Inter in the summer, is keen on the idea of replacing Solskjaer at Old Trafford.

However, Solskjaer is set to remain in charge of the Red Devils for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Tottenham.
