Antonio Briseño has revealed the stressful nature of his move to Chivas last summer.

‘El Pollo’ signed for the Flock on 1 July, 2019, but there was a difficult period of uncertainty for the centre-back before he put pen to paper.

“I arrived in June and, because of contractual issues, they didn’t introduce me until July,” the 26-year-old told a Chivas podcast.

“There was a lot of tension because I didn’t know if I was going to stay.

“Chivas made a great effort to bring me and when I signed it was a spectacular day for me.”

Briseño, a Guadalajara native who started his career at city rivals Atlas, said playing for Los Rojiblancos is a “dream come true”.

The defender spent two years at Portuguese side Feirense, but left after their relegation from Liga NOS last season.

He said he finds the standard in Liga MX is higher than in Portugal where Benfica, Porto and Sporting CP dominate.

“Mexican soccer is better than Portuguese, taking away the big three,” Briseño claimed.

“It is very difficult to face those teams, they are on another level. This league is more competitive.”

Chivas were having a decent 2020 Clausura, and were sitting fifth in the table before the season was cancelled after 10 games due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
