Chivas defender Antonio Briseño is refusing to pre-emptively use international absences as an excuse for dropping points in the 2021 Apertura.
The Flock open their campaign with a home game against Atlético San Luis on Saturday.
They will do so without Gilberto Sepúlveda, who is away with the Mexico senior team at the Concacaf Gold Cup, and Alexis Vega, Uriel Antuna, Alexis Angulo, and Fernando Beltrán who are helping the national effort at the Tokyo Olympics.
Despite these notable absences, Briseño expects those left behind to have a 100% record intact when the travellers return.
“No player wins games alone, not even five,” the 27-year-old told TUDN.
“We need 11 and obviously we are going to try that when those players arrive, the five, who are very important to us because they are selected, arrive with a cushion of nine points.”
After San Luis, Chivas travel to Puebla next Friday before hosting Juárez the following weekend.
