Much of the story in Liga MX over the weekend was focused around the animated bust-up between Chivas defender Antonio Briseño and Tigres star striker André-Pierre Gignac.
However, Briseño downplayed what happened that led to the altercation and made it clear that everything was left on the pitch and that the two are good friends.
“To those who say that we say things to each other on the pitch, well, yes, we said things to each other and sometimes we say uglier things to each other,” Briseño said on his Instagram account.
“Gignac is my friend, he’s a guy I appreciate, I was with him for a year.
“We gave each other a hug, a greeting, and then we had to play. Let’s go now.
“He also told me many things that I am not going to repeat or say, but it is a part of this game.
“We said things to each other. It is part of football, there is nothing else to say.”
The 26-year-old has not been a big part of Chivas this season, having only made a brief cameo at the end of the Atlético San Luis prior to his 21-minute performance against Tigres.
