On Monday, Antonio Briseño finally learned his fate for his unfortunate tackle on Giovani dos Santos, which left the Club América forward with a gaping hole in his right leg.
Briseño will be suspended for three games – one for the red card and an additional two games for excessive force.
In a video posted to Twitter on Sunday, Briseño sent out an apology to dos Santos:
“I am very sorry for what happened, it was a very fast play where I was going too fast, but it was not my intention to cause you any harm. We are fellow professionals.
“My prayers and those of my family are with you, I hope to see you recovered soon my friend.”
Giovani dos Santos will miss up to six weeks as he will undergo surgery. We should see him come back just in time for the Liguilla.
