Antoine Griezmann has enjoyed a resurgence like no other at Atletico Madrid, announcing to the world that he still belongs to the list of elite footballers in the world.
Leaving behind the troubled spell at Barcelona and years of inconsistency, the French talisman enjoyed a sensational 2022/23 campaign, netting 15 goals and 15 assists.
Griezmann also won back the hearts of Atletico fans, who were previously hostile towards him for his transfer to Barca.
However, in what could potentially be worrying news to the fans, Griezmann’s intriguing release clause in his current contract has been brought to light.
According to L’Equipe, the 32-year-old has a bargain buy-out clause worth €25 million, which will naturally turn the heads of top clubs.
Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain, who were linked with Griezmann in the past, are now reportedly exploring a move as they prepare for life without Kylian Mbappe.
The French superstar has informed PSG that he has no intention of signing a contract extension, much to the disappointment of the Qatari owners.
Les Parisiens are also firm with their decision to sell the 24-year-old rather than lose him for free when his contract expires in 2024.
Griezmann could be a marquee signing to lead the attack in the absence of Lionel Messi and Mbappe.
The former Real Sociedad star may also interest Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea, who are in the market for attacking reinforcements.
United are prioritising a guaranteed goalscorer ahead of next season. Griezmann’s playmaking abilities, in addition to his scoring prowess, make him the best of both worlds.
Chelsea’s chances of signing Griezmann are lower due to their absence from the Champions League next season.
However, Griezmann has found his feet again at the Wanda Metropolitano and is reportedly unwilling to take another risk by leaving.
The 2022 World Cup finalist is the favourite to bag the La Liga Player of the Season award, and Diego Simeone sees him as the driving force to challenge for silverware next season.
