SAN JUAN DE TIBÁS, Costa Rica – Antigua GFC won 3-nil against Deportivo Saprissa in the second leg of their quarterfinal’s series in the 2024 Concacaf Central American Cup on Tuesday at Estadio Ricardo Saprissa in San Juan de Tibás, Costa Rica.
Santiago Gómez opened the scoring in the 5’ with a right-footed finish inside the box to place the visitors in front on aggregate.
Two quick plays in succession nearly saw both sides score in the 80’, with a strike from Gómez hitting the woodwork to nearly double Antigua’s lead seconds before a stop from Luis Morán denied a header from Saprissa’s Javon East on the other end of the pitch.
Gómez secured his brace and extended the visitor’s lead in the 84’ following an individual play and right-footed drive across goal.
Dewinder Bradley struck in the 90’+5 to secure the definitive 3-0 result as Antigua advanced as the first semifinalist.
The Guatemalan side won the quarterfinals series with an aggregate score of 3-nil after both sides played to a scoreless draw in the first leg. Antigua also qualified for the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup as a result.
Deportivo Saprissa exits the title contention but may still qualify for next year’s Champions Cup by disputing one of two spots at stake in the play-in round.
