Amidst the controversy around Vinicius Jr’s habit of dancing after scoring goals in La Liga, several Atletico Madrid fans racially abused the Real Madrid superstar on derby day.

A toy monkey was spotted outside the stadium whilst offensive chants against the Brazilian were heard outside the Civitas Metropolitano, whilst discriminatory remarks were made against him during Los Blancos’ 2-1 victory.

As a result, the issue was taken up by the Anti-Violence Commission in the aftermath of the unsavoury scenes before the international break. Their response has now been revealed after a two-week period.

AS have reported that the incident was excluded from a report put together by the Anti-Violence Commission regarding all violent, racist and xenophobic acts until the sixth matchday of the current Spanish top-flight season.

A key reason why the decision to postpone the ruling on the incident has been taken is that the authorities plan to discover the perpetrators behind the hateful chants.

However, they have released a statement to condemn the disgraceful actions committed by a specific section of supporters during the Madrid Derby.

“The Commission expresses its firm condemnation of the deplorable racist and intolerant manifestations directed at the Real Madrid player Vinicius Jr., rejecting any type of racist and xenophobic expressions and behaviour in the field of football and sport in general.

“It demands that the football clubs condemn them jointly and immediately when these undesirable behaviours occur.

“In this sense, the Permanent Commission has transferred a proposal to the league so that messages rejecting racism and xenophobia are displayed on the playing fields on the next day of the First and Second Division football.”

At the end of the day, one hopes appropriate action is taken against those involved in the wrongdoings.
