Anthony Martial seems more likely to return to France when he departs Manchester United this summer than anywhere else.

It has been widely reported that the forward will leave Old Trafford in June, as his contract will expire and there has seemingly been no desire from club or player to extend the deal.

The much-maligned striker has spent most of the season injured, not playing a minute since the embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth in December.

Martial was even reported to be on the move in January, as his agent was spotted in Turkey trying to engineer a move for his client. However, no move came to pass after the extent of the striker’s injury was made public.

The 28 year old has been linked to a plethora of clubs since including Inter Milan, Juventus, Galatasaray and Saudi Arabian clubs.

Furthermore, two separate reports came out yesterday linking the him with moves to Barcelona and Tottenham.

However, Sport Italia journalist, Rudy Galetti, reveals it is not Italy but in fact France that is Martial’s most likely destination.

Sides such as Olympique Lyonnais have been linked to the player, but there were conflicting reports indicating Martial did not interest them and they turned down the chance when he was offered to them. His potential wage packet is likely to be a factor in this decision.

Galetti went on to claim that despite France being the player’s most probable next career move, Roma and Inter retain an interest.

Interestingly, the journalist also claims that Saudia Arabia is still on the table as a backup option for him, if no move to France materialises. This is contrast to reports relayed by The Peoples Person that a move to the Gulf state does not excite the player.

What is clear is that nobody seems really sure on what the future holds for Martial except that it is away from Manchester.

Most fans will be delighted that his nine year stay is coming to an end but there will be a tinge of regret that the player who excited so many in his first few seasons has never come close to living up to his huge potential.
