A free agent since the expiry of his contract at Manchester United at the start of the summer, Anthony Martial (28) looks to have found himself a new project.
Since leaving Manchester United, with whom he spent nine years, racking up 317 appearances (90 goals, 47 assists), Martial has been looking for a new club. Brazilian side Flamengo were cited as an interested party, as were Lille OSC, although Les Dogues’ president Olivier Létang was quick to shut down the link to the former Olympique Lyonnais and AS Monaco forward.
The closure of the transfer window does not pose a problem for the former France international, although with the date for the submission of UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League squad lists having passed, opportunities to join clubs competing in those competitions are now limited.
It is within this context that Martial is set to join AEK Athens, according to Foot Mercato. The deal to take him to Greece is reportedly “very close”. There, he is expected to sign a three-year deal, worth €2.5m per annum.
