Anthony Martial has joined Greek side AEK Athens as a free agent.

The French forward has finally found a new club following his Manchester United exit this summer. His contract at Old Trafford expired and he wasn’t offered a new deal, ending his nine year association with the club.

Martial, 28, is expected to arrive in Greece tonight and he is in line to earn £2.5m per season with AEK.

The deal would’ve been announced on Monday night if not for a delay, according to SPORT24.

While Martial is bound to take a wage cut, it is understood that he is set to become AEK’s highest earning player, surpassing former Tottenham star Erik Lamela.

Martial burst onto the scene as a young prodigy at United, but never reached the levels that were expected of him. It’s a shame that injuries appeared to ruin his chances of kicking on in recent seasons.

He scored just two goals in 19 appearances for United last season.

In Greece, Martial will be playing at a much lower level and should find it easier to get back amongst the goals.
