reports this afternoon that Belgian midfielder Anthony Limbombe has agreed to a mutual termination of his contract with Nantes, having been absent from the first team for over two years until this weekend.
The 27-year-old arrived for a club record fee in 2018, injuries and a lack of favour with manager Antoine Kombouaré has seen him sidelined for much of the last two campaigns.
Nantes were ordered by the LFP’s legal commission last month to bring the former Club Brugge man back into the fray, with the Belgian international having been in the reserves this season.
Kombouaré eventually brought Limbombe back into the squad this weekend, although insisting that this was entirely due to the potential sanctions Nantes would face otherwise – including a hefty fine and a potential points deduction.
A few days later, the situation has finally come to an end, after 25 months that have seen Limbombe frozen out of the Nantes first team.
