Anthony Gordon is making headlines yet again.

This time it is nothing to do about football, or on the other hand, maybe it is everything about football.

Somebody like Newcastle United and England star Anthony Gordon stepping up and doing something very positive, in the wake of great tragedy.

Following the horrific incident in Southport, where three children have died and a number of others are still in hospital, along with adults who tried to stop the attack, an appeal fund was set up on Wednesday (yesterday).

The GoFundMe account set up with the intention of the money raised going to help support those affected by this harrowing event, the initial aim to raise £75,000.

As soon as it was set up, the public stepped up with numerous donations, then late yesterday afternoon it got a massive boost, Anthony Gordon donating £10,000.

That was then followed by Steven Gerrard donating the same amount last night.

A great example of people coming together in the wake of this appalling tragedy, donating what they can, large or small.

The net result is that at 7am this (Thursday) morning, less than 24 hours after the fundraiser was set up, already there has been over 1,900 people donating and together they have raised £63,255 of that initial £75,000 target.

England and Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon has selflessly donated £10,000 to the victims of the harrowing knife rampage in Southport that has left three children dead and others critically injured, with Steven Gerrard pledging the same five-figure sum.

The Southport Dance Group Emergency Fund is hopefully set to go far higher and help in some small way those affected by what occurred.
