Newcastle United and England winger Anthony Gordon vowed to poke fun at his recent cycling accident if he gets on the score sheet for England against Slovakia on Sunday.

While cycling on Wednesday afternoon, Gordon had a mishap that left him with a significant gash on his chin and cuts on his hands, admitting he tried to film a video of himself before losing control of his bike.

"We went on what was meant to be a recovery bike ride," a visibly bruised Gordon explained. "It was a lovely day. I was going down a hill, trying to take a quick video for my family, just to show them what I was doing.

"Before I knew it, I was head first into the floor. The bikes are electric so they are faster than normal bikes and, in England, the front brake is on the right-hand side. I have gone ten feet in the air, chin first.

"I've got a few grazes, a few cuts but it’s not anything painful. I just went back to the camp and put some stuff on it.

"To be fair, no one had seen it and I definitely didn't press record so there were some positives to come from it. I'll get back on - I won't let that bother me."

Asked whether he could replicate the incident with a goal celebration against Slovakia on Sunday, Gordon promised: "I'll put stabilisers next to the pitch maybe and you lot [the media] will get credit for the celebration. I will do it. You've got my word."

Gordon came on as a late substitute in England's goalless draw with Slovenia on Tuesday night.

Despite his limited minutes, he impressed, leaving many supporters optimistic that he will play a more substantial role in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday.
