Barcelona forward Ansu Fati is said to be having second thoughts over a surgery that he requires after injuring his hamstring during his side’s 2-3 defeat against Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey.

Xavi had mentioned that the club will hold a meeting with the player, his family, and the medical staff on Monday to decide the next course of action.

However, despite the fact that the surgery is, in fact, the right way to go, the forward is not sure about it as he has a terrible memory of the meniscus arthroscopy he underwent, where many mistakes were made.

According to MARCA, Barcelona are currently working on a specific training regime for the 19-year-old to make sure there is no lasting effect of the surgery.

All that, however, requires time and the aforementioned source says by the time he recovers from the current problem, he would have missed around two seasons of football due to several injuries.

Meanwhile, medical expert Dr. Ricard Pruna has advised Ansu to undergo surgery in Finland with the same doctor who worked with Ousmane Dembele. This would rule him out for around 3-5 months.

It is given that the operation would rule out new relapses, but the fact remains that the 19-year-old won’t feature again this season. And if he decides to do without the surgery, he will be out for around 8-10 weeks but will be without the assurance of future injuries.

Ansu missing out on several weeks of action comes as a huge blow for the club that is struggling for results this season. Furthermore, it might also force Barcelona to look into the transfer market for a short-term replacement, the possibility of which seems bleak.

As things stand, the final decision stands with the player and the parties will try to find a solution by the end of the day.
