This season has seen the Manchester City squad be constantly hit by injuries to key players. As it stands, Erling Haaland, Rodri, Nathan Ake, John Stones, and Manuel Akanji are all out due to injury. Phil Foden missed yesterday’s match after picking up an injury against Manchester United last weekend. As Manchester City picked up a crucial 5-2 win over Crystal Palace yesterday they picked up yet another injury concern. This time goalkeeper Ederson went off yesterday due to injury. It’s yet another injury concern for Pep Guardiola’s side as they prepare for their upcoming Premier League fixtures against Everton and Aston Villa.

Ederson was replaced by Stefan Ortega in the 71st minute of yesterday’s match. The Brazilian international dropped to the pitch and received treatment midway through the second half. He had to be replaced and his condition is now a major concern for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Speaking after his team’s win over Crystal Palace Pep Guardiola was unsure about the injury Ederson had sustained. When asked about the injury that forced Ederson to be substituted Guardiola told the media: “I don’t know. He made the pass and said he felt something and couldn’t continue.

It remains to be seen how serious the injury Ederson picked up yesterday is. He has recently missed time this season due to an abductor injury. The Brazilian keeper recently withdrew from Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers in March due to injury. It is unclear if the injury that Ederson sustained yesterday is a flare-up of that particular ailment.

Summary.

Manchester City will be hoping that the injury sustained by Ederson isn’t a serious one. He was crucial to his team’s victory yesterday and remains one of Manchester City’s most important players. He will be needed in City’s chase to secure Champions League football and the hope is that he isn’t set to join his teammates on the sidelines for a prolonged period of time.
