Manchester United have started yet another season without a specialist left-back at Erik ten Hag’s disposal with the Dutchman forced to play right-back Diogo Dalot in that position.
Luke Shaw suffered a pre-season injury which has kept him out till now while Tyrell Malacia has been sidelined since the summer of 2023.
The Red Devils were linked with plenty of left-sided full-backs in the summer but in the end, they ended up securing ther signing of Noussair Mazraoui, a right-back by trade instead.
Malacia is inching closer to a comeback but with Mazraoui’s health condition, Ten Hag is under pressure to find a solution and fast.
United could dive into the market in January to address the lack of a fit left-back with plenty of outlets linking the Red Devils with a move for Ben Chilwell of Chelsea.
The club is also reportedly considering buying back former academy star Alvaro Fernandez and now, Teamtalk have added a brand new name into the mix.
AZ Alkmaar left-back David Moller Wolfe is attracting plenty of interest from all across Europe with United and Chelsea among his admirers.
The 22-year-old has cemented his status as a guaranteed starter for both club and country with the Norway international raking up 10 appearances this season while notching two assists.
He was previously at Norwegian outfit SK Brann where he even played higher up the pitch at times. His current market value is €4.5 million as per Transfermarkt.
With a contract until 2028, Alkmaar are expected to ask for a lot more, especially if United and Chelsea are serious about the defender.
“Manchester United and Chelsea are among a number of Premier League clubs that are tracking Norway and AZ Alkmaar left-back David Moller Wolfe, TEAMtalk can reveal.
“Wolfe has impressed for club and country in the last 18 months and his performances have brought him onto the radar of a host of top clubs across Europe’s biggest five leagues.”
Just like the 20-time English league champions, the Blues are also looking to strengthen in that position with Chilwell expected to depart soon.
Ten Hag’s penchant for Eredivisie stars is well known and as long as he is at the club, a concrete move cannot be ruled out for Wolfe.
