Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo scored an emphatic hat-trick as Portugal romped home to a 5-0 win over Luxembourg at the Estadio Algarve.
He converted two penalties and then a header to record his 58th hat-trick for club and country. Ronaldo also extended the record for most international foals to 115.
It was also Ronaldo’s tenth hat-trick at the international level, another record that the 36-year-old has taken for himself.
United star Bruno Fernandes was also on target on the night. The duo’s form augurs well for United as they go into a difficult set of fixtures in October.
The win puts the Iberian giants in a strong position to overtake Serbia in Group A of their World Cup qualifiers. Portugal trails their rivals by a solitary point and also have a game in hand. The dominating win now hands them a +4 goal difference over Serbia as well.
With both sides set to face off on the final matchday, Ronaldo’s performance might as well have set the group for a grandstand finish.
