Another Celtic departure as Barry Coffey joins Cork City | OneFootball

Barry Coffey has left Celtic as the midfielder looks to kick on in his career with Cork City. The player was signed in 2017 and made  27 appearances for Cork last term, scoring 11 goals and assisting 6 times.

Speaking to The Irish Examiner, via GT, Coffey shared his delight at rejoining the club after a successful loan spell.

“I am delighted to be back. I came in last summer on loan and really enjoyed my time here.

“We have been building over the time and I want to finish what we started.

“I want to try and chip in with goals and assists between now and the end of the season – to show people what I can do.”

The 21-year-old enjoyed two loan spells with Clinftonville and Cork City and now that deal has been made permanent after his deal with Celtic expired. Coffey never made a senior appearance for the first team but was constantly involved with the youth teams between loan spells away from the club.

Meanwhile, Cork manager Colin Healy expressed his pleasure at Coffey returning.

“It is great to have Barry on board for the rest of the season. He has had two loan spells with us now, and I think everyone has seen what he can bring to the side.

“He has a real eye for goal, and he is a great lad around the club also.

“While Barry didn’t come through that pathway, I think he really took to the club and the fans and he was really keen to sign back and play his part. He knows the players, he knows the staff and the club, so we don’t need to worry about him taking time to settle in, he will be able to hit the ground running.”

It appeared that the player was not at the level for the first team and a move away from The Scottish Champions appeared to be best for all parties concerned. Best of luck, Barry.
