Mohamed Elneny posted on social media to confirm his departure from Arsenal earlier this week, and youth defender Reuell Walters has now followed suit with a message of his own.

“Thank you to everyone that’s made this part of my career special,” Walters wrote on Twitter. “It’s been a pleasure playing for this club and I wish you all the best for the future.”

Reports from earlier this week confirmed that Walters had been offered a new contract by Arsenal, with his old deal ending this summer.

The Athletic report that sources close to the player insist it was Walters’ decision to leave after declining that offer, which would mean that Arsenal are due a training compensation fee when he signs for a new club.

A couple of Arsenal first-team players responded to Walters’ Instagram post, with William Saliba writing “Good luck”, and Declan Rice adding “All the best broski! Go do your thing”.

It’s no surprise to see that Walters has a good relationship with some of the first-team players, as he’s spent a lot of time with them in training.

The 19-year-old has made the Arsenal first-team squad on 20 occasions, despite never making a competitive first-team debut for the Gunners.

As for what’s next, Walters has been monitored by clubs in the Premier League, Championship, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, and Belgium, according to The Athletic’s report.

Talks with English clubs for a free agent were not permitted until May 18th, but they can now take place.
