Lampard is set to be announced as the club's new boss after tomorrow's clash against the Blades.
Coventry City have struck a "full agreement" with Frank Lampard, who looks set to take charge of the club.
According to Football Insider, he will be announced as the Sky Blues' next manager after Saturday afternoon's clash against Sheffield United.
The Midlands club have been without a permanent manager in place since Mark Robins' departure earlier this month, with his exit taking many people by surprise.
But following a disappointing start to the season and a change in coaching structure that didn't work out, owner Doug King decided to make a change in the dugout.
This decision was met with fury, but many supporters have accepted the decision now and are looking ahead to the future.
A number of managers were linked with the top job at the Coventry Building Society Arena, including Wycombe Wanderers head coach Matt Bloomfield and Manchester United legend Ruud Van Nistelrooy.
However, Lampard has also been heavily linked to the vacancy and looks set to be the winner of this race.
He will have the job of picking Coventry's first-teamers up following a fairly poor start to the season, with the Sky Blues failing to compete at the top end of the table despite the calibre of their squad.
There has been a debate regarding the quality of their central midfield area and the potential need to strengthen this area during the January transfer window, but looking at their squad on paper, they should be doing much better than they are right now.
Having secured a play-off place at the end of the 2022/23 season and finishing in the top half of the table last term, there's plenty for Lampard to do as he looks to enjoy success at the CBS Arena.
However, he has big shoes to fill following Robins' wonderful seven-and-a-half years in charge.
It seems as though owner King has finally got his man, with a "full agreement" now being reached to appoint Lampard.
This is according to Football Insider, who have gone on to report that Lampard's arrival is expected to be announced after Saturday's game, with the terms of a contract being agreed.
Interestingly, Football Insider have also reported that Coventry's board didn't want the Blades to be Lampard's first opponents, with Chris Wilder's side currently sitting in second place and likely to be full of confidence following their excellent start to the season.
They will also be motivated after their Steel City derby win, so United may not have been the ideal first opponents for the Chelsea legend.
Unfortunately, the Sky Blues have come to the end of a glorious era with Robins leaving.
However, this season hasn't been ideal and if results and their league position can be improved, fans will get behind Lampard.
He probably won't have long before questions are asked, because it will also be difficult following in the footsteps of an adored manager, as Wayne Rooney found out last season.
But the fact results haven't been good this season probably works in Lampard's favour, because he may not have to do much to get the club up the table.
He has a great squad at his disposal, so it will be interesting to see how he does.
