Former Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar Jr. and the Brazil national team are under fire after drawing 1-1 at home against Venezuela on Thursday. The 31-year-old did provide an assist on the opening by Arsenal’s Gabriel; however, the match went downhill after that goal.
Venezuela eventually scored the tying goal late in the contest for the shocking draw, which might have felt like a win for them. Nonetheless, Brazilians in attendance weren’t happy with the result, leading to some throwing popcorn that landed on the head of Neymar.
If Neymar and Co. don’t get a win on Tuesday on the road against Uruguay, then the unhappiness Brazil over the national team will continue to spread.
The Seleção has already surpassed the 20-year mark since their last World Cup victory. If this current team doesn’t show signs of ending this drought, then it will be interesting to see what expectations they’ll have entering the competition in 2026, should they qualify.
