Yoane Wissa has returned to Brentford training despite angling for a move to Newcastle United.

The forward has made it clear he wants to join Newcastle, who had a £25 million bid rejected for him earlier this summer.

The DR Congo international had threatened not to play for Brentford again if he was not permitted to move to St James’ Park.

However, Wissa has returned to training on Wednesday morning after the rest of the squad flew back from Portugal.

He has expressed dissatisfaction at the club’s refusal to sanction a move to Newcastle.

Brentford have already sold Bryan Mbeumo, Christian Norgaard and Mark Flekken this summer. They are unwilling to lose another key player.

Wissa bagged 20 goals and five assists in 39 appearances last season.

He has one year left on his current deal, which means this summer represents Brentford’s last opportunity to collect a significant fee from his sale.

Callum Wilson has left Newcastle, and there is uncertainty over the future of Alexander Isak.

The Magpies are keen to sign Wissa, but they have also been linked with RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.
