Following FC Girondins de Bordeaux’s bankruptcy, all of the club’s professional and academy players are set to be released, meaning that there’s lots of opportunities to seize in the transfer market. According to Foot Mercato, Lens and Angers are both targeting France U19 international Emmanuel Biumla (19).

Despite being one of France’s most emblematic clubs, Bordeaux is the last club to have fallen due to financial issues, joining the likes of RC Strasbourg Alsance, FC Le Mans and Sedan, who managed to get back on track with more or less success. If the Maritimes can only dream of a comeback like Strasbourg, they are now uncertain about which division they will compete in this season. In the meantime, Les Girondins have abandoned their professional status acquired back in 1937, meaning that all the players are set to be released, while the training centre and academy will be shut down. Despite a disappointing 14th place in Ligue 2 last season, Bordeaux have a rich squad with numerous bright talents that are now looking for another challenge.

With Mathys Angely, targeted by Liverpool among others, Biumla is one of the club’s biggest prospects. Making his professional debut last season at only 18 years old, the centre-back, who can also play as a defensive midfielder, has impressed physically and technically, scoring a goal on eight appearances, making his way into Riera’s starting lineup. The France U19 international unfortunately picked up a hamstring injury which kept him away from February until the end of the season. Now available on a free transfer, the right-footed defender is being linked to RC Lens and newly-promoted Ligue 1 side Angers, who have both already open talks with the player, reports Foot Mercato. According to the French outlet, Biumla would favour to remain in France despite a strong interest from Belgium outfit Anderlecht.
