Angers SCO have offered a contract to former Ligue 1 man Faouzi Ghoulam, according to a report by Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato. The left-back is a free agent, who last played for Serie A’s SSC Napoli, where he spent eight and a half seasons.
The former Algerian Player of the Year amassed three goals and 20 assists for the Neapolitans across 160 appearances in the Italian top flight. In Naples, he won the Italian Super Cup (2014/15), and two Coppa Italia titles (2013/14, 2019/20). Previously, he had played in Ligue 1 at AS Saint-Étienne, where he won the Coupe de la Ligue in the season preceding his move to Italy.
Without a club since his departure from Napoli last summer, Ghoulam had been training at Angers SCO on trial, where he has since been offered a contract. Les Scoïstes, dead-last in Ligue 1 with eight points at the halfway point in the season, will hope that Ghoulam can revitalise their season from defence.
Angers sit seven points away from safety, approaching an important set of fixtures in the coming weeks – three of their next four league games are against fellow relegation rivals: Stade Brestois (17th), AC Ajaccio (18th), and AJ Auxerre (19th).
