Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water on rumours that VfB Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller is on the brink of completing a late move to Manchester United.
United’s business has so far primarily focused on bolstering the attacking department after a goal-shy 2024/25 season in which regularly finding the back of the net proved very difficult.
United brought in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko. Cunha and Mbeumo have already made their mark, while Sesko is still finding his feet, though the early signs have been very promising.
At the moment, United’s full attention seems to be on securing the services of a goalkeeper, with Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez and Senne Lammens of Royal Antwerp their two main targets.
However, it remains abundantly clear that the Red Devils are crying out for a midfielder. So far this season, United’s lack of control and authority in midfield has been alarming, yet there have been no concrete links to reinforcements in that area of the pitch.
Last month, United explored a swoop for Carlos Baleba but a pursuit for the Cameroonian has been postponed until next summer, when a significant portion of the transfer budget can be allocated towards getting a deal over the line.
Other players mentioned to be on United’s radar include Adam Wharton and Stiller.
A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Stiller has admirers at Old Trafford. However, it was subsequently claimed that United were no longer chasing him and the player would remain at Stuttgart for the 2025/26 campaign.
However, with just over 24 hours left until the close of the summer transfer window, a rumour surfaced online that Stiller was in advanced talks to join United.
The rumour speculated that a United delegation was in Germany to tie up a deal for Stiller but there is no truth to this speculation
The more reliable Fabrizio Romano has insisted that Stiller is not in talks with any club, let alone United.
Romano wrote on X, “Angelo Stiller, expected to stay at Stuttgart this summer as there are zero negotiations underway now.”
This has been reiterated by talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, who notes that United are unlikely to sign a midfielder before Monday’s deadline.
