Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is keen on the club re-signing Angel Gomes from Lille.

The 24-year-old midfielder came through United’s academy before establishing himself as one of Ligue 1’s most promising players.

Gomes became an England international in September after being given his debut by Lee Carsley.

The Manchester United youth team graduate was continuously overlooked by Gareth Southgate, but will hope to get more international caps under Thomas Tuchel.

A big move in the summer would help Gomes stake a claim in Tuchel’s side for the future.

It seems it won’t be hard to convince Amorim that Gomes would be an asset to his squad in the future, with the new head coach keen to stamp his authority on the team.

According to Caught Offside, Gomes is attracting interest from several Premier League clubs as well as United. Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool, Tottenham and Newcastle are all understood to be monitoring the midfield ace.

There is also interest from around the continent – from the likes of Atletico Madrid and Napoli, but a move back to the Premier League seems to be a preference.

It’s worth noting that Gomes’ form in Ligue 1 hasn’t come out of nowhere. He’s been a regular in the Lille side for multiple seasons, proving his worth, and appears ready for a bigger stage.

Intensified interest is likely because Gomes is currently set to become a free agent next summer, which also means he could be available on the cheap in January.

The report adds that Gomes would favour a move back to Old Trafford if possible, with the player seeking a three-year contract plus the option of a further year.

Amorim is likely to make changes to the team in the summer, but it remains to be seen if United will be active in the mid-season transfer market.
