Atlético de Madrid continued their pre-season success with a 3-1 win over Getafe on Saturday, thanks to an impressive showing from one man.
Scorers: Uche 60′; Correa 38′, 55′, Félix 45′
The clinical efforts of Ángel Correa were the focal point of the 90 minutes of action at the Estadio Coliseum.
The Argentine opened the scoring after controlling a bobbling ball into the box from Arthur Vemeeren and poked home from around the penalty spot.
Correa’s slick back heel flick later sent the ball to João Félix, who ran past defenders before roofing the ball into the top of the net. His goal was the perfect response to fans’ jeers and insults before kickoff.
With one goal and one assist, Correa still wasn’t done. After an hour of action, he maintained a blistering pace to run beyond Getafe’s backline and blast home a cross into the box from Marcos Llorente.
Diego Simone will only have one issue after the full-time whistle, as Chrisantus Uche managed to erase Atleti’s clean sheet hopes after scoring a curling effort from outside the box.
A red card for Ismael Fernández González later saw Getafe play out the final two minutes with 10 men.
Next on the calendar for Atleti is a match with Kitchee SC on Wednesday after two wins from two friendlies so far.
