Celtic have confirmed that Ange Postecoglou  has touches down in Glasgow and was driven straight to Lennoxtown to begin work on his Celtic re-build and take up the reins at pre-season training.

The New Celtic manager flew in from London after completing his period of quarantine and wasted no time in getting down to work in person at the club’s training centre at Lennoxtown. Postecoglou met up with New Celtic CEO Dom McKay last Friday before the two headed over to Wembley to watch the England v Scotland match in the European Championships.

The former Australia manager will meet many of the Celtic players, renew old acquaintances – with for example Tom Rogic and meet the current backroom team including John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan who have been holding the fort since Neil Lennon left in March. Some players are still a while away from returning to pre-season training including the Scotland boys on international duty.

That includes Callum McGregor, the scores of the only Scotland goal in the tournament, James Forrest, David Turnbull, Greg Taylor and Ryan Christie, the latter being one of a group of players looking to leave the club this summer.

Postecoglou will also have to sort out what is happening with Leigh Griffiths, who missed out on the Scotland squad for the Euros and as we reported earlier today has told the BBC that he is expecting his contract extension to go through (or a different contract being agreed) later this week.

Ange Postecoglou will take charge of the Celtic training for the first time tomorrow morning and will have 12 days working with the team before Celtic leave for their pre-season training camp in Wales on 5 July.

His first game in charge of Celtic will be against Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday, 7 July and there will be further pre-season friendlies against Charlton Athletic, Bristol City and Preston. The new Celtic manager’s first competitive game in charge will be against Danish side FC Midtjylland in the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round at Celtic Park on Tuesday, 20 July.

Postecoglou’s first interview from Lennoxtown will be available shortly.
