Saturday’s 6-0 win over Motherwell wrapped up the league campaign and officially started the title celebrations.

Ange’s message, in his post-match address to the Celtic fanbase around the world, was clear:

“I’ve got a group of players who have been unbelievable – champions of Scotland and well deserved… We’ll come back bigger and better – because we never stop.”

His current ‘group of players’ includes 19 new signings since he joined the club. Many of these signings were sourced specifically by the Australian and are now key first team players.

Juranovic, Hatate, Kyogo and Giakoumakis. Each of them has made massive contributions as the club reclaimed the Scottish Premiership, winning our 10th title in 11 years.

An insight into this season’s signing policy

Five new faces arrived in January and it’s now clear to fans the strategy behind some of these new Bhoys.

In particular, both O’Riley and Ideguchi appear to be ready-made replacements for the outgoing duo of Rogic and Bitton.

“The reason we brought in three midfielders in January was because I knew the likely outcome at the end of the season. “We wanted to be a step ahead in planning… so we’re not scrambling at the last minute.” Ange said.

Whilst we’ve not seen much of Ideguchi, his skillset and style of play matches that of the outgoing Israeli. And well, we’ve all enjoyed what O’Riley can do. His talent makes the pain of Rogic leaving a little more palatable.

Where will Celtic look to add in the summer?

Losing two experienced players, with more than 30 combined trophies during their time at Celtic, is bound to impact the quality and depth of the squad however.

Ange is under no illusions this is the case as he plans to get his team Champions League ready for next year. He said:

“What we’ll look to do in the summer window is make sure the squad are stronger, more robust and increase the quality of our starting players. “We won’t bring in as many, obviously it’ll be more targeted.”

The manager also mentioned that ‘we still need to sign another midfielder’ which will likely be a squad addition.

I suspect the positions he is looking at ‘to increase the quality of our starting players’ will be focused in the wide areas. Both in defence and attack.

At the top of mind for all Celtic fans now is the pending deals for Carter-Vickers and Jota. If either of these two are to join, Ange will want the business done sooner rather than later. Just like he did in January.
