Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they take on AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday at home.
Spurs have been inconsistent this season, and they will be hurt by back-to-back defeats, including the 1-0 loss against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Ange Postecoglou says that the league form hasn’t been too bad over the last recent period, and they want to continue that.
He has provided injury updates on several key players ahead of the match on Friday. Cristian Romero and Micky van Ven were expected to feature against AZ, but Postecoglou confirmed that he decided against using them after seeing the pitch.
However, it won’t be long before the pair returns to the first team.
Postecoglou said: “A couple of extra days of fitness, training and recovery, hopefully both will be in line to feature.”
Dominic Solanke, who returned to the side after a long injury lay-off, appeared to have picked up an injury against AZ. However, Postecoglou has confirmed that it is just a knock, and hopefully, it’s not a bad injury.
He added: “No, too early to tell. With Dom, I think he got a knee to the backside so it’s probably a bit sore. It’s a knock so hopefully, it settles down quickly.”
The Tottenham boss also confirmed that Ben Davies is training with the squad, and he has progressed nicely. There is a chance that he could feature against the Cherries.
The Spurs boss continued: “I’m not sure. He’s actually training at the moment, so we’ll see. He’s definitely progressed and he feels good. Let’s see how we go over the next 24/48 hours. He’s a chance, but we’ll see how he goes.”
Tottenham have lost four games in their last in all competitions. Bournemouth are seventh in the league table and are pushing for a European spot.
With the massive second leg coming up against AZ next week at home, it will be interesting to see how Postecoglou shapes his team for Sunday. Nevertheless, the potential return of Davies is a huge boost for the club.
