During the international break last week, many of Celtic’s first team stars were away with their respective countries. One who has flown slightly under the radar has been South Korean striker, Hyeongyu Oh. The striker has been on the scoresheet for Celtic three times since signing in January and new South Korea boss, Jurgen Klinsmann rewarded him with a call-up.

The frontman had a very good time whilst away with the national team and his new boss at international level has been very pleased at his efforts during the last week. So much so, that he took time out to mention Oh’s contribution to the national set-up and hope that there is more to come from the talented striker. He said of the 21-year-old: “All three players are very good players. It was fun to watch them train on the field. I think Hyeongyu Oh in particular will be a good player. He’s hungry for goals. We’ll have to see what it looks like in the coming weeks”, via Dailian.

Now it appears that it’s his club boss, Ange Postecoglou to get in on the act as he also praised the youngster for his impact whilst he was away with the South Korean team. “The reports on Oh was that he did very well in both of his games and really made an impact off the bench, he said via Daily Record. That is great for his development. This is the first time he has had to do that trip from Scotland to South Korea and it’s no easy one. I know myself that going back to Asia and coming back takes it out of you.”

Postecoglou also stated that the big man can back to Lennoxtown this week looking sharp and energised after his jaunt on the international circuit.“Oh arrived back on Thursday and came back to Lennoxtown to blow the cobwebs off straight away, he said. “But that was a great experience for him as he will be a key part of the South Korea team moving forward. On a personal level, coping with the travel and all that entails will be great for his growth. He has come back looking bright.”

The Hoops head coach also made it clear that international football will be good for his development at club level too, as it gives him exposure to different methods of playing and also types of defenders. He added: “In general, international football is good for the progress of players. It tests you in different ways and Oh playing against top defenders will only help him. South Korea has a new coaching set-up and he will learn a lot. But international football is great for any young player as it exposes them to different things than the club game. He will also become stronger from a mentality side.”
