Led by former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham Hotspur clinched the Europa League title with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in Bilbao last night.
Spurs secured the Europa League trophy over their Premier League counterparts, with Brennan Johnson’s first-half goal ultimately deciding the match.
This marks Tottenham’s first piece of silverware in 17 years, as Postecoglou brings an end to the club’s long wait for a major trophy. The 59-year-old joined the North London side in the summer of 2023, having departed Celtic following a treble-winning campaign.

In their 137-year illustrious existence, Celtic has appointed 19 permanent managers, but Postecoglou is the first to go on and lift a European trophy after leaving the club.
Following their Europa League success, Spurs now have the chance to claim another major European title, as they are set to face the winners of next weekend’s Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan in the UEFA Super Cup final this August.
And, Celtic offered a gracious congratulatory message to Ange following his Europa League triumph with Tottenham yesterday evening.
The Hoops has responded to his victory by sharing a post on X outlining:
During his two trophy-laden seasons in Glasgow’s east end, Ange captured five of six available domestic trophies, capping it off with a treble in his second year in charge.
Congratulations to the Ange who has had to deal with an embarrassing backlash from the media down south this season. Even in the build-up to a European final, a seasoned journalist implied without respect that he would be a ‘clown’ if he lost the final.
Well, like the man said earlier on in the campaign, “I don’t usually win things, I always win things in my second year – nothing’s changed.” And he did. Like he has done throughout his whole career.
Someone give Ange a mic to drop!
