Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has confirmed CF Montreal defender Alistair Johnston is among the club's list of targets in the January transfer window.
Johnston was part of the Canadian side that, despite exiting with zero points, impressed in Qatar - their first World Cup showing since 1986. The 24-year-old has also established himself as one of the most consistent defenders in MLS over recent years with Nashville SC and, now, Montreal.
Rumors have been gathering pace that Johnston - who can play as a right-back or center-back in a three-man defense - will be trading Montreal for Glasgow this January. Asked directly about the subject, Postecoglou confirmed Johnston is on Celtic's 'radar' but insisted negotiations remain ongoing.
“We’re looking at a number of players,” Postecoglou told reporters. “We are looking to get stronger and he’s definitely one of the players on our radar.
“Hopefully there will be some developments in the near future and he can add something to our football club.”
A 32-time Canada international, Johnston has played 84 times in MLS regular season and Playoffs competition combined, scoring five goals and providing five primary assists.
