Tottenham Hotspur came from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday.

Spurs were laclusture in the first half and went a goal behind after Marcus Tavernier latched on to Milos Kerkez’s inviting cross.

Tottenham were better in the second half and created a few good opportunities. But it was Bournemouth who increased their lead after Evanilson scored a delightful goal in the 65th minute.

Spurs pulled one back through Pape Sarr, whose intended cross looped into the goal. Son Heung-min scored a late penalty to secure a draw for the home side.

Ange Postecoglou was impressed by the performance of midfielder Lucas Bergvall, who replaced Yves Bissouma.

The 19-year-old midfielder brought energy and dynamism in the middle of the park, and Spurs played with a lot of positive energy as he played out more forward passes.

Postecoglou said Bergvall made a “real big impact”, and hailed him as a “technician”.

The Spurs boss said: “Lucas was great. He has been great but he has played a lot and we’ve just got to be mindful of that.

“He’s becoming an important part of our team. I thought he made a real big impact when he came on. Like I said we were sloppy when we were on the ball in the first half and he’s one who takes a bit more care with it.

“He’s a technician and he carries the ball really well. I thought he and Sonny made a really good impact when they came on.”

This has been a disastrous campaign for Tottenham, and their season is on the line.

Postecoglou is finally getting his key players back, and we can hope to see an improvement in results shortly.

Spurs will face AZ Alkmaar in the second leg of the Europa League round of 16 tie on Thursday, and Postecoglou could be tempted to start with Bergvall. Spurs are 1-0 down from the first leg and they need a strong result (and performance) to reach the last eight.
