Ange Postecoglou’s squad development plans for January not only involves new arrivals, coming through the door as fast as the Celtic manager can make it happen, but also several players going out on loan and also a few departing the club for pastures new.

Speaking at his Mixed Media Conference yesterday ahead of this evening’s vital Premiership clash with Hearts at Celtic Park, the Celtic manager looked back on his activity in the rushed summer window as his rebuild git underway and reckoned that bringing in a dozen players at that stage was as far as he could have gone in that window.

Stage two of his plans are about to be implemented and that will mean that some players will find that they are heading for the exit – either on a temporary or even a permanent basis – having not made the cut in Postecoglou’s plans for this season and beyond. They will be replaced by signings that he believes will make a difference to the Celtic first team.

Asked how many players will be leaving Ange kept his cards relatively close to his chest but was prepared to shed some light on his plans at this stage.

“That depends, some guys will be going on loan and some will be moving out, that’s only natural as everything progresses.

“Some of that will depend on the players themselves and where they feel they are at. Circumstances change and I expect some players will be moving on.”

This of course will make room for the quality signings that Postecoglou has identified and is in a hurry to bring through the door at Celtic Park as quickly as possible after the transfer window

“It doesn’t change my view,” Ange said. “I still think we need more, squad-wise we are not where we want to be.

“It’s only natural that we wouldn’t be. We’ve added 12 players and it would have been too much to bring in any more than that. I knew at the end of the transfer window that it still wasn’t enough.

“Nothing has changed although I’m really pleased we have managed to get through this period thus far. We’ve got a lot of games to go and most of the players are up and running and available.

“We are starting to get to a good level. The resilience we showed coming back from Germany and playing three days later is a good sign for the team as well. My view is that we can still improve the squad and we want to improve the squad in January and the club is supporting me in that.”
