The Blades managed to get back to winning ways in the Championship last night in what turned out to be an enthralling affair at Bramall Lane.

Sunderland were reduced to ten men in the 31st minute as Dan Neil was dismissed for a challenge on James McAtee.

The hosts took the lead immediately after this red card as Ahmedhodzic planted a header past goalkeeper Anthony Patterson.

Following the break, Max Lowe doubled United’s advantage as he slotted home from close range after being teed up by Ahmedhodzic.

Lynden Gooch gave Sunderland hope of securing a point by chipping Wes Foderingham in the 55th minute.

However, it was the Blades who created a host of chances following this strike as Patterson produced a number of impressive saves to prevent Paul Heckingbottom’s side from extending their advantage.

As a result of this triumph, United moved up fourth in the Championship standings.

After his side’s 2-1 victory over the Black Cats, Ahmedhodzic opted to reflect on this fixture on Twitter.

The defender posted: “3 points, 1 goal and 1 assist.

“We keep strong.”

The Verdict

The Blades’ decision to splash the cash on Ahmedhodzic earlier this summer is starting to look like somewhat of a masterstroke as the defender has already demonstrated some real signs of promise in the Championship.

Particularly impressive during yesterday’s triumph over Sunderland, the 23-year-old managed to illustrate that he is capable of providing an attacking threat in this fixture as he was directly involved in both of his side’s goals.

Ahmedhodzic also made four tackles, three interceptions and four clearances in this fixture as he recorded a WhoScored match rating of 8.73.

Providing that the former Malmo man is able to maintain his fitness over the course of the current campaign, he could go on to play a major role for the Blades as they aim to launch a push for promotion.
